Synopsis

Maggie: A Girl of the Streets is realism genre novel written by the American author Stephen Crane who is remembered for his novel “The Red Badge of Courage”.  Maggie and her brother Jimmie are unfortunate children of their irresponsible father and drunkard mother Marry Johnson.  Jimmie who is fighting with street boys has been saved by Pete and befriends with him.  When they grow up, their miseries continue to grow and Maggie has been thrown out of the house by her mother.  She is longing for love and Pete exploits her situation and breaks the relationship.  Jimmie now grownup as a criminal and do all unlawful activities for ransom.  Maggie’s character has been badmouthed by neighbors and instead of getting support, gossips on her are fueled by her own brother and mother.  The novel ends up Maggie unwillingly and inevitably makes her to an immoral life for the survival and ends up in early death.
