The Possessedis a novel written by the Russian novelistFyodor Dostoevskywhose notable works include works Crime and Punishment, Notes from Underground, The Brothers Karamazov and The Idiot. Originally named as Demons in Russian language, this novel is translated into English and titled as The Possessed, though another title The Devils seems to be more aligned with the genre of the novel.
Nikolai Stavrogin, the central character of the novel has been targeted by his Tutor Stepan Trofimovich Verkhovensky's son Pyotr Verkhovensky as they both have different political ideologies and Pyotr thinks Nikolai has no sympathy towards mankind. Pyotr gathers many conspirators for his plot and during the execution of their plot to kill many political ideologists, his crew has been caught however he escapes. Nikolai ends up killing himself after tortured by his own misdeeds.
