Synopsis

The Princess and the Goblinis a fantasy novel written by Scottish PoetGeorge MacDonaldwho wrote many fantasy and realistic fiction works such as Phantastes: A Fairie Romance for Men and Women, At the Back of the North Wind, The Day Boy and the Night Girl, The Princess and Curdie, Alec Forbes of Howglen, Annals of a Quiet Neighbourhood, and The Marquis of Lossie. George MacDonald was the mentor of  Lewis Carroll and his works had influenced many of his contemporaries like Mark Twain, Elizabeth Yates, and Nesbit.
The Princess and the Goblin narrates the story of Princess Irene who leads a lonely life as King does not take care of her and her mother is already expired. Mines nearby the Kingdom has been inhabited by Goblins and are in the verge of taking revenge on their human neighbors. Irene was saved by miner Curdie while she was chased by Goblins. Goblin prince Harelip wanted to marry Irene, however Curdie cautions this to the King. However he was imprisoned by the palace gaurds. In the preceding incidents Goblins were drowned during a flood in the mine and ultimately King recognizes  Curdie and reward him as the Gaurd of Palace.
