Twas the Night before Christmas: A Visit from St. Nicholas is a poem believed to have been written by Clement Clarke Moore, an American Professor who had associated himself with Protestant Episcopal Church for nearly 25 years. Though there are controversies about the authorship of this poem between Clement and Livingston, evidences lies in favor of both.
This poem turned out to be historical one, which changed the conceptions of Santa Claus by the Americans. The poem is plotted as story which opens up on a Christmas eve night, a man sleeping with his family awakens and watches through the window, St. Nicholas is being pulled by reindeer from air-borne sleigh. He enters the house through chimney and fills his children’s stockings with toys and wishes them "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.".
