Synopsis

Mansfield Parkis written byJane Austen, an English novelist remembered for her magnum opus Pride and Prejudice. Mansfield Park narrates the story of Fanny Price, a sensitive, intelligent shy girl who had been sent to live with her mother’s sister on account of poverty in their home, was treated like a servant rather than relative. The story opens up narrating the lives of three sisters and their social status through marriage. Lady Bertram, Mrs. Norris, and Mrs. Price married with indifferent wealthy people. Lady Bertram is married to Sir Thomas Bertram, wealthy owns Mansfield Park. Mrs. Norris’s husband is making a comfortable living at the local parsonage. Mrs. Price is married to a naval officer who is wounded and retired now, leads a miserable life. Mrs. Price is fortunate or rather unfortunate to be blessed with nine children, which they just cannot afford to have.
Mrs. Price requesting her wealthy sister to adopt one of their children, Lady Bertram chose Fanny Price the eldest daughter to live in Mansfield Park. In contrast to her expectations, life at Mansfield Park was not nice to the poor Fanny Price, who was aged at 10. She was ill treated by all her siblings Tom, Maria and Julia except Edmund, who shows real kindness to her.
The real colors of her siblings and aunts break out in the preceding incidents, which narrate the story of cunning, selfish and careless attitude of the characters. The story ends with good note of marriage of Fanny with Edmund.
