Synopsis

Tarzan of the Apesis a novel written byEdgar Rice Burroughs, an American novelist who claimed fame with creation of his fictional characters jungle hero Tarzan and Mars Adventurer John Carter. His numerous novels on Jungle fiction and Science fiction genres include The Return of Tarzan, The Beasts of Tarzan, The Son of Tarzan, A Princess of Mars, Thuvia, Maid of Mars, Llana of Gathol and At the Earth's Core.
Tarzan of the Apes narrates the story of John Clayton who went on to become the hero of jungles. When John Clayton was born, his mother dies due to maternal complications. His father is killed by Kerchak, the King Ape. Became on orphan instantly after his birth, he was adopted by Kala, She-ape and has been brought up in the jungles without knowing anything about human races. He is named as Tarzan by Kala, who saves him from other jungle terrors and Kerchak.
Grown as adult, Tarzan realizes his physical identity is quite different from the jungle creatures he has seen. He grows stronger and envied by Kerchak. Meanwhile his mother Kala is killed by new tribal migrants to the jungle. He takes revenge on them and also kills Kerchak and become the king of Apes. In the preceding chapters he realizes his origin, however returns to forest where he spent his life since his infancy.
